Mobile Surveillance is Becoming a Tool for Mass Control.
The U.S. National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) reported that around 100 countries have acquired modern spyware to hack mobile devices. This software is actively used by both governments and private individuals. The demand for spyware is rapidly increasing and such programs are becoming more accessible and easier to use. Some solutions operate on a "plug and play" basis, making them attractive even to hackers and extortionists. The Israeli company NSO Group, which developed the infamous spyware Pegasus, has become a key player in this business. In 2021, the U.S. placed NSO Group on a "blacklist", accusing it of selling software that was used to surveil journalists, activists, diplomats and officials. Intellexa and Cytrox were also included on this list. Despite this, the company claims that NSO Group's technologies help combat terrorism and other serious crimes. NSO Group asserts that it terminates contracts with clients in cases of identified abuses. However, NSO Group is not the only player in this market. Today there are many companies offering similar solutions. The British National Cyber Security Centre previously noted that such technologies allow dozens of countries to access capabilities that would otherwise take decades to develop.
