Hi everybody. I have a question to those who are experts in checks.
My story is:
I take DL and cash normal, legal original payroll check. Then I print same check, with different dates, different check # and $800 for it.
Original payoff amount was around the same amount. I print MICR with MICR toning and it reads it in store ok. I use same DL, that was used for cashing the original check couple weeks before.
In store they say its declined!!
2 different checks and times.
What could be wrong on my side??
Please help..

same font, but the device at check cashing places reads just MICR, right? I went to walmart and I tried different locations. And I scaned, edited original, same fonts, but it doesnt verify the check image, does it? And another question, is the check # important? I took recent checks, added 500 numbers and placed the check #.
Still no guess why its declined.

If you have access to your own checks, read the past checks and find out how many checks the company issues in a week or month and add accordingly. Be close to that number. Do not deviate too far. It will be RED FLAG in system.

Other issue: may be company is pre-authorizing all the payroll checks before giving to workers.

THINK.

Yes, check number is extremely important. Some businesses will authorize an amount (ex: #14001-14999) then authorize the next 1000 check numbers when a specific threshold is reached (date or check number). Personal checks from your bank will send you checkbooks that have like 100 or so in there, and the bank ensures that each check number is not deposited more than once.
