Bitcoin Overtakes Amazon in Market Cap to Become 5th in the World

Bitcoin has overtaken Amazon to become the fifth-largest asset in the world. On July 14, its market cap reached $2.42 trillion, while Amazon's was $2.38 trillion. Now BTC is second only to gold, Microsoft, Apple, and Nvidia.

The growth is supported by a steady influx of capital into spot ETFs: on July 10 alone, investors invested $1.17 billion. Sygnum Bank believes that Bitcoin is perceived as a hedge against global risks. Capriole and 10x Research attribute the interest to the legitimacy of the asset and concerns about the US budget deficit.

However, a sharp rise could increase short-term volatility: analysts warn of possible profit-taking by large holders.

Bitcoin Dominance Index Plummets

After updating its historical maximum above $123,000, Bitcoin corrected, and capital began to flow into altcoins. According to Bitfinex, the BTC Dominance Index fell by 6.9 percentage points in a week — the largest drop in 250 days. This is a signal of growing interest in more volatile assets.

Dogecoin has grown by 37% in 7 days, Ethereum, XRP, ADA and Solana — by more than 20%. The OTHERS index (all assets outside the top 10 and stablecoins) has added 35% in two weeks, restoring $85 billion in capitalization. More than 50 crypto assets from the top 100 have grown from 15% to 110%.

Bitfinex believes that for further growth BTC needs to overcome the profit-taking zone ($120K) and move to $136K - this is possible only with new institutional infusions or strong macroeconomic signals.
