According to Telegram Info, the messaging app Telegram will soon be able to block the accounts of violators. During the imposition of restrictions, users will be able to log into their accounts but will not be able to send messages or perform other actions within the service. In the source code of Unigram, Telegram Info discovered new lines indicating that in a future update, the messenger will be able to change an account's status to "frozen." Based on these lines, it can be inferred:
- Accounts may be frozen for violating rules.
Other users may be able to see a special label on the profiles of frozen accounts. - During the freeze, users "can use their account but cannot send messages or perform any actions".
- A frozen account will be in "read-only" mode. It is likely that the ban will also apply to direct messages to contacts.
- Telegram may offer users the option to contest the decision through @SpamBot. If the freeze is not lifted, the account will be deleted.
