Inexperienced users of the messaging app are being intimidated with account block threats. ​

• The user receives a message supposedly from a support representative. The message states that a request to delete their account has been submitted in their name - to cancel it, they need to provide a code from an SMS message.
• The scammer then sends a link that leads to a fake website mimicking Telegram or another popular service. The victim is prompted to enter their phone number and go through an authorization process.
• When the victim enters their number, they receive an SMS with a one-time code. The scammers immediately see this code, delete the conversation and block the deceived user.
• The obtained data can be used maliciously: accessing the victim's online banking account to withdraw money or apply for loans.

There have been cases where, through this scheme, scammers gained access to banking marketplaces and took out loans worth millions in the victim's name. Scammers are searching for potential victims in various Telegram channels. Their target audience consists of adults who are often not well-versed in modern services and unfamiliar with the functionality of the messaging app. To avoid becoming a victim, it's essential to remember three simple things:

• Telegram support never contacts users about account block threats. It's impossible to create a "request to delete a profile" in the app.
• Genuine representatives of large companies never ask users to disclose one-time codes from SMS messages.
• Companies don't reach out to clients via messaging apps or send links to third-party resources.

Scammers will always try to appeal to authority - posing as government officials, law enforcement or platform administrators. On one hand, this helps them gain the user's trust, while on the other, it creates a stressful situation for the individual. Remember, no representative of official institutions will ever ask for this information. Therefore, if a user encounters such a situation, he should immediately cease any interaction with the scammer.
